Installer, lead carpenter and estimator openings in Reno and Sparks
We set windows and hang siding out of a shop on Watson Way in Sparks, and the work runs from the Reno benches to Fallon. If you can keep a lap line straight in a crosswind, or measure an opening you cannot see the back of, this is the right page.

Open roles
Three seats, and what each one is actually responsible for
Written by the work, not by a job-board template.
Installer
Tear-off and hang. Lap, board and batten and panel profiles in vinyl, engineered wood, fiber cement and metal, plus window and door sets. You keep the nailing pattern honest and do not bury a barrier detail you would not want to look at again.
- Works from
- Sparks shop, crew truck
- Day is
- Outdoors, at height
- Learns
- Six product lines
Lead carpenter
Runs an elevation and the crew on it. Sets the layout so batten spacing and butt seams land where they should, calls the flashing and kickout details, handles the openings that come out ugly, and owns the punch list before anyone tells you it exists.
- Runs
- A crew on site
- Owns
- Layout and detailing
- Closes
- The punch list
Estimator
Measures the house and writes the scope: every opening, the substrate where the trim lets you see it, orientation and access, then the product list. You read the certified rating label rather than the brochure.

- Reads
- NFRC rating labels
- Produces

Straight answer
What exterior work in Northern Nevada is like
Worth knowing before you apply rather than in week two.
- The wind is a real factor. A downslope wind off the Sierra comes up in the afternoon and it is gusty rather than steady, which is unpleasant on a ladder and unforgiving of a sheet of panel.
- Freeze-thaw runs roughly October to May at valley elevation, so cold-weather sealant handling is part of the job, not an exception to it.
- Fiber cement is heavy, it wants dust control and it eats blades. Anyone who says otherwise has not carried a day of it.
- The drive matters: Dayton and Fallon are real distances from Sparks.
- Some of the work is commercial and multi-family, in occupied buildings, where how you leave a walkway at 4:00 PM matters as much as the wall.
The form
What the application asks, and why
It is short on purpose. The details below are the ones that change the first conversation.
- Which seat you are going for, and whether you would take a different one
- How long you have been doing exterior work, in ranges rather than a number
- Whether you have your own hand tools, and how far you are from the Sparks shop
- Whether you hold a current driver's license, because crews move between towns
- Anything you have hung, set or measured that you are proud of
No pay figure appears anywhere on this page. That is a conversation, and it belongs in one.
